  1. 1. Preheat the oven to 180 degrees Celsius (conventional heat).
  2. 2. Roll out the puff pastry sheet slightly and place it in a greased square baking dish (approx. 20x20 cm). Prick the bottom several times with a fork.
  3. 3. Heat the milk in a saucepan almost to boiling, then remove it from the heat.
  4. 4. Whisk the egg yolks, sugar, and vanilla extract in a bowl until smooth.
  5. 5. Slowly pour the warm milk into the egg yolk mixture while whisking constantly.
  6. 6. Pour the cream over the pastry. Place a sheet of baking paper over the dish and put another baking dish on top to prevent leaking.
  7. 7. Bake the square in the oven for 30 to 35 minutes, until the center barely jiggles.
  8. 8. Remove the tray and place it immediately into a bowl of ice water to stop the cooking process. Let it cool completely.
