  4. 4. Add the sauerkraut, juniper berries, bay leaf, prunes, white wine, and broth to a large pot.
  5. 5. Bring the mixture to a boil on the stove.
  6. 6. Reduce the heat, cover the pot, and let the sauerkraut simmer gently for about 20 minutes.
  7. 7. Remove the lid and let the remaining liquid reduce further until it thickens slightly.
  8. 8. Peel the cooked potatoes while the sauerkraut is simmering.
  9. 9. Press the hot potatoes through a potato ricer into a bowl.
  10. 10. Add the hot milk and butter to the potatoes.
  11. 11. Stir everything until you have a smooth and creamy mash.
  12. 12. Season the mashed potatoes with salt and ground nutmeg to taste.
