Ingredients

Instructions

  1. 1. Mix sugar, paprika powder, cumin, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and pepper in a small bowl to create a uniform spice blend.
  2. 2. Pat the pork shoulder dry with kitchen paper and rub it thoroughly all over with the spice mixture. Press firmly with your hands to help the flavors penetrate the meat.
  3. 3. Preheat the air fryer to 140 °C and let it heat up for 5 minutes.
  4. 4. Place the meat in the cooking basket and set the cooking time to 2 hours. Turn the meat every 30 minutes so that it cooks evenly and stays juicy.
  5. 5. Increase the air fryer temperature to 190 °C (average of 180–200 °C) and cook the meat for another 15 to 20 minutes until it forms a dark, crispy crust.
  6. 6. Remove the meat from the air fryer and let it rest for 10 minutes on a plate or board. Cover it loosely with aluminum foil while resting.
  7. 7. Shred the cooled meat into fine fibers using two forks. Fold in BBQ sauce and optionally some apple cider vinegar until the meat is evenly moist.
  8. 8. Serve the pulled pork directly on burger buns, with coleslaw, in wraps, or plain with fries or corn on the cob.
