Ingredients
- 500 g pork shoulder
- 1 tbsp brown sugar
- 1 tsp sweet paprika powder
- ½ tsp smoked paprika powder
- ½ tsp ground cumin
- 1 tsp garlic powder
- 1 tsp onion powder
- 1 tsp salt
- ½ tsp black pepper
- 2 tbsp BBQ sauce
- 1 tbsp apple cider vinegar
Instructions
- 1. Mix sugar, paprika powder, cumin, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and pepper in a small bowl to create a uniform spice blend.
- 2. Pat the pork shoulder dry with kitchen paper and rub it thoroughly all over with the spice mixture. Press firmly with your hands to help the flavors penetrate the meat.
- 3. Preheat the air fryer to 140 °C and let it heat up for 5 minutes.
- 4. Place the meat in the cooking basket and set the cooking time to 2 hours. Turn the meat every 30 minutes so that it cooks evenly and stays juicy.
- 5. Increase the air fryer temperature to 190 °C (average of 180–200 °C) and cook the meat for another 15 to 20 minutes until it forms a dark, crispy crust.
- 6. Remove the meat from the air fryer and let it rest for 10 minutes on a plate or board. Cover it loosely with aluminum foil while resting.
- 7. Shred the cooled meat into fine fibers using two forks. Fold in BBQ sauce and optionally some apple cider vinegar until the meat is evenly moist.
- 8. Serve the pulled pork directly on burger buns, with coleslaw, in wraps, or plain with fries or corn on the cob.
