🍽️ Crispy Mini-Calzones from the Air Fryer

Ingredients
- 200 g pizza dough
- 100 g crushed tomatoes
- 50 g grated mozzarella
- 50 g cooked ham, diced small
- 1 tbsp olive oil
- 1/2 tsp oregano
- 1 piece egg yolk
- salt and pepper to taste
Instructions
- 1. Lightly dust a clean work surface with flour.
- 2. Roll out the pizza dough on this surface until it is about 3 to 4 millimeters thick.
- 3. Cut circles with a diameter of approx. 10 cm from the dough using a glass or a cookie cutter.
- 4. If the dough sticks while rolling or cutting, add a little more flour to the work surface or rolling pin.
- 5. Put the pureed tomatoes into a small bowl.
- 6. Season the tomatoes with oregano, a pinch of salt, and some pepper.
- 7. Cut the cooked ham into small cubes.
- 8. Set aside the grated mozzarella.
- 9. Place one dough circle flat on the palm of your hand.
- 10. Place a spoonful of the seasoned tomato sauce in the center of the dough.
- 11. Distribute about one teaspoon of the diced ham pieces over the sauce.
- 12. Add a heaping teaspoon of grated mozzarella on top.
- 13. Make sure not to overfill them so that you can close the calzones well later.
- 14. Lightly moisten the outer edges of the dough circle with water.
- 15. Carefully fold the dough in the middle to form a half-moon shape.
- 16. Press the edges firmly with your fingers or a fork so that the filling does not escape.
- 17. Place the finished calzones on a board or a baking sheet.
- 18. Whisk the egg yolk with a fork until smooth.
- 19. Brush the top of the calzones with the egg yolk to give them a nice color when baking.
- 20. Drizzle some olive oil on the top of the calzones or brush it with a brush.
- 21. The oil ensures that the dough becomes crispy in the air fryer and browns evenly.
- 22. Place the calzones one by one into the basket of the air fryer.
- 23. Make sure the calzones do not touch each other so that the hot air can circulate evenly.
- 24. Preheat the air fryer to 180 °C and cook the calzones for 8 to 10 minutes.
- 25. Check the browning of the calzones after about 5 minutes.
- 26. Turn the calzones if necessary so that they bake evenly golden brown on both sides.
- 27. Carefully remove the mini-calzones from the air fryer.
- 28. Let them cool for about 5 minutes, as they are very hot inside.
- 29. Serve the calzones warm.
- 30. Garnish them best with fresh tomato sauce or a yogurt dip.
