  1. 1. Carefully slice the bagels horizontally into two halves.
  2. 2. Spread a thin layer of butter onto the freshly cut surfaces.
  3. 3. Place the bagel halves with the buttered side facing up into the air fryer basket.
  4. 4. Preheat the air fryer to 180 °C and toast the bagel halves for 3 to 4 minutes until they are golden brown and crispy.
  5. 5. Carefully remove the toasted bagel halves from the air fryer.
  6. 6. Crack a raw egg into the center of each bottom bagel half.
  7. 7. Season the eggs lightly with salt and black pepper.
  8. 8. Place a slice of cheese directly on top of each egg.
  9. 9. Optionally add a slice of ham or turkey on top of the cheese.
  10. 10. Place the topped bagel halves back into the air fryer.
  11. 11. Bake the sandwiches at 180 °C for 4 to 5 minutes until the egg is set and the cheese is melted.
  12. 12. Place the top bagel half on top of the filling as a lid.
  13. 13. Gently press the sandwich together to stabilize the shape.
  14. 14. Garnish with fresh herbs or arugula if desired.
  15. 15. Let the bagel cool down briefly before serving it warm.
