  1. 1. Peel the asparagus thoroughly.
  2. 2. Fill a pot with water and add a pinch of salt and a small spoonful of sugar.
  3. 3. Bring the water to a boil and add the asparagus spears.
  4. 4. Cook the asparagus for about 8 minutes until it is still slightly firm.
  5. 5. Remove the asparagus from the water and let it drain well in a colander.
  6. 6. Lay a slice of ham flat on a work surface.
  7. 7. Place a piece of Gouda cheese in the center of the ham.
  8. 8. Place two asparagus spears side by side on the cheese.
  9. 9. Wrap the ham tightly around the asparagus and cheese.
  10. 10. Secure the parcel with a trussing needle or a toothpick.
  11. 11. Prepare three shallow bowls for the breading.
  12. 12. Fill the first bowl with flour.
  13. 13. Whisk eggs in the second bowl.
  14. 14. Add breadcrumbs or panko flour to the third bowl and mix in some paprika seasoning.
  15. 15. Coat the asparagus parcel thoroughly in the flour.
  16. 16. Then dip the floured parcel into the egg mixture.
  17. 17. Finally, press the asparagus parcel firmly into the breadcrumb mixture.
  18. 18. Preheat the air fryer to 180 °C.
  19. 19. Place the breaded asparagus parcel in the basket of the air fryer.
  20. 20. Cook the parcel for 10 to 12 minutes until it is golden brown and crispy.
