  1. 1. Peel the potatoes and slice them into very thin slices (about 3 mm thick).
  2. 2. Wash the tomatoes and also slice them into thin slices.
  3. 3. Finely chop the garlic and roughly chop the basil leaves.
  4. 4. Place a layer of potato slices in the bottom of a tian dish (shallow round dish) and add a layer of tomato slices.
  5. 5. Repeat the layers until the vegetables are used up, and sprinkle garlic and basil in between.
  6. 6. Pour the sunflower oil over all the vegetables and press them down gently.
  7. 7. Bake the tian at 180 degrees for 45 minutes until the vegetables are soft and lightly caramelized.
