  1. 1. Peel the 500 g potatoes and remove all eyes.
  2. 2. Cut the potatoes into approximately 3 mm thick, even slices.
  3. 3. Cut the 50 g butter into small cubes.
  4. 4. Grate the 200 g Gruyère cheese into fine shavings.
  5. 5. Preheat the air fryer to 180 °C.
  6. 6. Put the butter cubes into a small bowl and melt them in the microwave for 30 seconds.
  7. 7. Stir the sour cream, salt, pepper, and thyme into the melted butter.
  8. 8. Lay half of the potato slices flat in the air fryer basket.
  9. 9. Pour half of the sour cream mixture over the first layer of potatoes.
  10. 10. Distribute the remaining potato slices on top.
  11. 11. Pour the remaining sour cream mixture over the top layer.
  12. 12. Sprinkle the grated Gruyère cheese evenly over everything.
  13. 13. Bake the gratin for 15 minutes at 180 °C, until the edges bubble slightly.
  14. 14. Carefully turn the slices with a fork for even browning.
  15. 15. Bake the gratin for another 15 minutes at 180 °C, until the surface is golden brown and crispy.
  16. 16. Let the gratin sit in the basket for 5 minutes so the sauce thickens.
  17. 17. Remove the gratin and serve it when it is firm enough to cut.
