Ingredients
- 200g Calamari Rings
- 100g Panko Bread Crumbs
- 1 Egg
- 1 EL Lemon Juice
- 1 Zwiebel Garlic
- 1 TL Paprika Powder
- 2 EL Olive Oil
- 1 TL Salt
- 1 TL Pepper
Instructions
- 1. Preheat the air fryer to 200 °C. This takes about 3 minutes and ensures a crispy result.
- 2. Pat the 200 g calamari rings dry with paper towels. Never wash them, or they’ll become soggy.
- 3. Season the dry rings with 1 teaspoon salt and 1 teaspoon pepper. Mix everything well in the bowl.
- 4. Crack 1 egg into a separate, shallow bowl. Use a fork to lightly beat it.
- 5. Stir 1 tablespoon lemon juice into the beaten egg. This makes the breading smoother.
- 6. Pour the 100 g panko breadcrumbs into a third bowl. Panko makes the coating extra crispy.
- 7. Dip the calamari rings one by one first in the egg, then in the panko. Press the breading on firmly.
- 8. Finely chop 1 garlic clove. Make sure the pieces are small for the oil.
- 9. Heat 2 tablespoons olive oil in a small pan over medium heat. The oil should be warm, not smoking.
- 10. Fry the finely chopped garlic in the oil for 1 minute, until fragrant. Don't let it brown, or it will become bitter.
- 11. Remove the garlic with a spoon. The flavored oil stays in the pan for later.
- 12. Place the breaded calamari rings in the basket of the air fryer. Lay them side by side, don't stack them.
- 13. Cook the calamari at 200 °C for about 10 minutes, until golden brown and crispy. Turn them after 5 minutes.
- 14. Remove the calamari from the air fryer. Drizzle them immediately with the warm garlic oil.
- 15. Sprinkle 1 teaspoon paprika over the hot calamari. This adds color and a mild flavor.
- 16. Serve the calamari immediately. They are perfect when the breading cracks when you bite into them.
