  1. 1. Halve the onions and remove the skin.
  2. 2. Cut the onions into pieces about 2 cm wide.
  3. 3. Wash the thyme and pat it dry.
  4. 4. Pluck the thyme leaves from the stems.
  5. 5. Heat the butter and 1 tablespoon of oil in a pot over high heat.
  6. 6. Add the onions to the pot.
  7. 7. Sauté the onions until they are translucent.
  8. 8. Add the thyme and caraway.
  9. 9. Season the mixture with salt and pepper.
  10. 10. Mix the vegetable broth with water if it is too concentrated.
  11. 11. Deglaze the onions with the broth and white wine.
  12. 12. Let the soup simmer for about 30 minutes on low heat.
  13. 13. Halve the slice of bacon.
  14. 14. Wrap a plum in one half of the bacon.
  15. 15. Thread two of the bacon-wrapped plums onto a wooden skewer.
  16. 16. Heat 1 tablespoon of oil in a pan over high heat.
  17. 17. Fry the bacon-wrapped plums for about 2 minutes until browned on all sides.
  18. 18. Serve the onion soup in deep plates.
  19. 19. Add the bacon-wrapped plums to the soup.
