🍽️ Warm Winter Chutney with Orange and Spices

Ingredients
- Oranges 8 pcs
- Shallots 4 pcs
- Ginger, fresh 30 g
- Oil 1 tbsp
- Brown sugar 100 tbsp
- Cinnamon pinch
- Cloves, ground pinch
- Nutmeg, ground pinch
- Salt pinch
- Pepper, black ground pinch
Instructions
- 1. Wash the oranges thoroughly.
- 2. Grate about 4 tablespoons of orange peel coarsely.
- 3. Peel the remaining oranges with a sharp knife.
- 4. Remove the white pith under the peel as well.
- 5. Cut the peeled oranges into coarse pieces.
- 6. Catch the released juice in a bowl.
- 7. Halve the shallots and peel them.
- 8. Dice the shallots finely.
- 9. Peel the ginger.
- 10. Finely chop the ginger.
- 11. Heat oil in a pot over medium heat.
- 12. Add the shallots and ginger to the pot.
- 13. Sauté the vegetables for about 2 minutes until they become translucent.
- 14. Add the raw sugar to the pot.
- 15. Add a pinch of cinnamon.
- 16. Add a pinch of ground cloves.
- 17. Add a pinch of ground nutmeg.
- 18. Add the grated orange peel.
- 19. Heat the spice mixture for about 2 minutes.
- 20. Season the mixture with salt and pepper.
- 21. Add the orange pieces to the pot.
- 22. Add the collected orange juice.
- 23. Bring the mixture to a boil while stirring.
- 24. Reduce the heat to a low setting.
- 25. Let the chutney simmer uncovered for about 45 minutes.
- 26. Distribute the hot chutney into clean screw-top jars.
- 27. Seal the jars tightly.
- 28. Turn the jars upside down.
- 29. Let the chutney cool down completely.
- 30. Serve the chutney as a dip or side dish.
- 31. It goes well with hearty winter dishes or for breakfast.
