  2. 2. Cut off the woody lower ends.
  3. 3. Place the cut ends and peels in a pot.
  4. 4. Add enough water to cover everything.
  5. 5. Cover the pot with a lid.
  6. 6. Heat the water over medium heat.
  7. 7. Boil the peels for about 10 minutes.
  8. 8. Pour the liquid through a sieve into a bowl.
  9. 9. Reserve the asparagus broth.
  10. 10. Halve a lemon.
  11. 11. Squeeze the juice from the lemon.
  12. 12. Pour the asparagus broth into a clean pot.
  13. 13. Add salt, sugar, 2 tablespoons of lemon juice, and butter to the broth.
  14. 14. Bring the broth to a boil.
  15. 15. Place the peeled asparagus spears into the boiling broth.
  16. 16. Cook the asparagus for about 15 minutes.
  17. 17. Carefully remove the asparagus from the water.
  18. 18. Let the asparagus drain briefly.
  19. 19. Serve the asparagus immediately while warm.
