  2. 2. Thoroughly wash the fresh herbs under running water.
  3. 3. Dry the herbs well with a kitchen towel or a salad spinner.
  4. 4. Pluck the leaves or needles off the tough stems.
  5. 5. Finely chop the herbs.
  6. 6. Peel the garlic clove.
  7. 7. Finely chop the garlic as well.
  8. 8. Place the chopped herbs and garlic into a small bowl.
  9. 9. Add the margarine to the bowl.
  10. 10. Stir the mixture well until it is creamy.
  11. 11. Season the herb butter with salt and pepper to taste.
  12. 12. Take the baguette in hand.
  13. 13. Make several shallow diagonal cuts into the baguette.
  14. 14. Keep a distance of about two centimeters between the cuts.
  15. 15. Do not cut the bread all the way through, but only until the bottom crust.
