🍽️ Baked Gyros Casserole with Rice

Ingredients
- Long-grain rice 300 g
- Salt Pinch
- Onions, red 2 pcs.
- Garlic cloves 2 pcs.
- Pepper, red 1 pc.
- Pepper, yellow 1 pc.
- Zucchini 1 pc.
- Oil for frying 4 tbsp
- Tomatoes, chopped 400 g
- Marjoram, dried 0.5 tsp
- Whipping cream 200 ml
- Pepper, black ground Pinch
- Chicken breast pieces Gyros style 600 g
- Gouda, grated 200 g
Instructions
- 1. Place the rice in a pot and cover it with about 700 milliliters of salted water.
- 2. Cook the rice over low heat for about 12 minutes.
- 3. Cut the onions in half lengthwise and peel them.
- 4. Slice the peeled onions into thin strips.
- 5. Peel the garlic and chop it roughly.
- 6. Wash the red pepper and cut it in half lengthwise.
- 7. Remove the stem and seeds from the pepper.
- 8. Cut the deseeded red pepper into coarse cubes.
- 9. Wash the zucchini and trim the ends.
- 10. Cut the zucchini in half lengthwise.
- 11. Slice the zucchini halves into rounds.
- 12. Heat two tablespoons of oil in a frying pan over medium heat.
- 13. Fry half of the onion strips together with the garlic and red pepper for about 5 minutes.
- 14. Transfer the fried mixture into a tall container.
- 15. Add the chopped tomatoes, marjoram, and cream.
- 16. Blend the ingredients finely into a sauce.
- 17. Season the sauce with salt and pepper to taste.
- 18. Preheat the oven to 180 degrees Celsius with top and bottom heat.
- 19. Heat another two tablespoons of oil in the pan over high heat.
- 20. Fry the chicken breast pieces for about 2 minutes on all sides.
- 21. Add the yellow pepper, the remaining onions, and the zucchini to the pan.
- 22. Fry the vegetables for another 3 minutes.
- 23. Season the vegetables with salt and pepper.
- 24. Mix the rice, chicken breast pieces, and sauce in a baking dish.
- 25. Sprinkle grated cheese over the casserole.
- 26. Bake the casserole for about 20 minutes in the oven until golden brown.
- 27. Carefully remove the casserole from the oven.
- 28. Serve the dish hot.
