  1. 1. Halve the onions and remove the outer skin.
  2. 2. Cut the onions into thin strips.
  3. 3. Peel the potatoes and rinse them under running water.
  4. 4. Slice the potatoes into very thin rounds.
  5. 5. Heat 500 milliliters of oil in a tall pot.
  6. 6. Add the potato slices and onion strips to the hot oil.
  7. 7. Fry the vegetables for about 20 minutes.
  8. 8. Stir the vegetables occasionally while frying.
  9. 9. Whisk the eggs in a separate bowl with salt.
  10. 10. Lift the fried vegetables out of the oil with a slotted spoon.
  11. 11. Mix the drained vegetables with the whisked eggs.
  12. 12. Preheat the oven to 160 degrees Celsius fan.
  13. 13. Pour the frying oil out of the pan.
  14. 14. Reheat the pan with 4 tablespoons of oil on high heat.
  15. 15. Pour the potato-egg mixture into the hot pan.
  16. 16. Fry the tortilla for about 5 minutes on the stovetop.
  17. 17. Place the pan in the preheated oven.
  18. 18. Let the tortilla set in the oven for approx. 10 minutes.
  19. 19. Remove the tortilla from the oven.
  20. 20. Place a plate on top of the pan.
  21. 21. Carefully turn the tortilla out onto the plate.
