  1. 1. Put the chopped tomatoes and the broth into a pot.
  2. 2. Bring the mixture to a boil.
  3. 3. Add the rice to the pot.
  4. 4. Season with salt, pepper, and sugar.
  5. 5. Cover the pot with a lid.
  6. 6. Cook the rice on low to medium heat for about 10 minutes.
  7. 7. Halve the onion and peel it.
  8. 8. Finely dice the onion.
  9. 9. Wash the basil and dry it.
  10. 10. Pluck the basil leaves off the stems.
  11. 11. Finely chop the basil leaves.
  12. 12. Take half of the chopped basil.
  13. 13. Put the ground meat into a bowl.
  14. 14. Add the diced onion to the ground meat.
  15. 15. Add the egg to the bowl.
  16. 16. Add the breadcrumbs to the bowl.
  17. 17. Add half of the basil to the bowl.
  18. 18. Mix all ingredients well together.
  19. 19. Season the meat mixture with salt and pepper.
  20. 20. Shape the mixture into balls with a diameter of about 3 cm.
  21. 21. Put the oil into a pan.
  22. 22. Heat the oil over high heat.
  23. 23. Fry the meatballs in the hot oil.
  24. 24. Fry the balls until golden brown on all sides.
  25. 25. This takes about 6 to 8 minutes.
  26. 26. Wash the tomatoes.
  27. 27. Halve the tomatoes.
  28. 28. Add the tomatoes to the rice.
  29. 29. Adjust the seasoning of the rice if necessary.
  30. 30. Serve the tomato rice on plates.
