🍰 Classic Sweet Apple Bread Casserole

Ingredients
- milk rolls 6 pcs
- apples, red 4 pcs
- oranges 1 pc
- hazelnuts, whole 40 g
- raisins 50 g
- eggs 3 pcs
- milk 300 ml
- sugar 40 g
- cinnamon 0.5 tsp
- vanilla sugar 2 tsp
- butter 3 tbsp
Instructions
- 1. Preheat the oven to 180 degrees Celsius with fan.
- 2. Slice the bread rolls into pieces about 1 cm thick.
- 3. Peel the apples and remove the core.
- 4. Cut the apples into coarse cubes.
- 5. Wash the orange thoroughly.
- 6. Grate about 1 teaspoon of orange zest.
- 7. Halve the orange and squeeze out the juice.
- 8. Chop the hazelnuts coarsely.
- 9. In a large bowl, mix the apple cubes with the orange zest, orange juice, hazelnuts, and raisins.
- 10. In a second bowl, add the eggs, milk, sugar, cinnamon, and vanilla sugar.
- 11. Whisk the ingredients of the second bowl well together.
- 12. Dip the bread slices into the egg milk mixture until soaked.
- 13. Grease a shallow baking dish.
- 14. Place half of the soaked bread slices into the dish.
- 15. Spread two-thirds of the apple mixture evenly over the bread.
- 16. Place the remaining soaked bread slices on top.
- 17. Distribute the remaining apple mixture and small pieces of butter evenly over the casserole.
- 18. Bake the casserole in the oven for about 45 minutes.
- 19. Remove the casserole when it is golden brown and crispy.
- 20. Serve the casserole hot or lukewarm.
