  1. 1. Place the rhubarb peels and end pieces into a sieve.
  2. 2. Rinse the peels thoroughly under running water.
  3. 3. Wash the lemon thoroughly.
  4. 4. Cut the lemon in half.
  5. 5. Squeeze the juice out of the lemon.
  6. 6. Add water, rhubarb peels, sugar, vanilla sugar, and 2 tablespoons of lemon juice to a pot.
  7. 7. Heat the mixture on medium heat until it comes to a boil.
  8. 8. Let the mixture simmer for about 2 minutes.
  9. 9. Pour the liquid through a sieve into a bowl.
  10. 10. Fill the hot syrup into clean bottles for storage.
  11. 11. For serving, mix 1 part syrup with 2 parts water in a glass.
  12. 12. Garnish the drink with mint and ice cubes as desired.
  13. 13. Serve the syrup and enjoy.
