  1. 1. Preheat the oven to 170 degrees Celsius with fan setting.
  2. 2. Separate the eggs and save the yolks for another recipe.
  3. 3. Place the egg whites and a pinch of salt into a bowl.
  4. 4. Whip the mixture stiff using a hand mixer and whisk.
  5. 5. Slowly stir the powdered sugar into the egg mixture.
  6. 6. Continue beating until the mass is firm and glossy.
  7. 7. Gently fold the hazelnuts into the mixture.
  8. 8. Place wafer cookies on a baking sheet lined with baking paper.
  9. 9. Place small portions of the mixture onto the wafers.
  10. 10. Place a walnut on top of each portion.
  11. 11. Bake the macaroons in the oven for about 20 minutes.
  12. 12. Remove the macaroons when they are baked to a light color.
  13. 13. Store the finished macaroons in an airtight container.
