  4. 4. Fry the onion slices for about 8 minutes until they are soft and translucent.
  5. 5. Add chili powder and cinnamon and stir everything for another minute.
  6. 6. Mix ketchup and water into the onion mixture.
  7. 7. Let the sauce simmer gently for about 10 minutes.
  8. 8. Bring about 500 milliliters of water to a boil in a pot.
  9. 9. Reduce the heat so the water is just simmering gently.
  10. 10. Place the sausages in the hot water and warm them for 5 minutes.
  11. 11. Heat the sauerkraut in a separate frying pan over medium heat.
  12. 12. Slice the buns and place them cut-side down on the warm sauerkraut.
  13. 13. Warm the buns for about 1 minute.
  14. 14. Fill the buns with the sauerkraut and the hot sausages.
  15. 15. Add the caramelized onion sauce and mustard as a topping.
