🍽️ New York Style Hot Dog with Caramelized Onions

Ingredients
- onions, yellow 2 pcs.
- oil 2 tbsp.
- chili, ground pinch
- cinnamon pinch
- ketchup 4 tbsp.
- water 80 ml
- hot dog sausages 4 pcs.
- sauerkraut 100 g
- hot dog buns 4 pcs.
- mustard 4 tsp.
Instructions
- 1. Cut the onions in half and remove the tough outer skin.
- 2. Slice the onion halves into thin half-moon strips.
- 3. Heat some oil in a frying pan over medium heat.
- 4. Fry the onion slices for about 8 minutes until they are soft and translucent.
- 5. Add chili powder and cinnamon and stir everything for another minute.
- 6. Mix ketchup and water into the onion mixture.
- 7. Let the sauce simmer gently for about 10 minutes.
- 8. Bring about 500 milliliters of water to a boil in a pot.
- 9. Reduce the heat so the water is just simmering gently.
- 10. Place the sausages in the hot water and warm them for 5 minutes.
- 11. Heat the sauerkraut in a separate frying pan over medium heat.
- 12. Slice the buns and place them cut-side down on the warm sauerkraut.
- 13. Warm the buns for about 1 minute.
- 14. Fill the buns with the sauerkraut and the hot sausages.
- 15. Add the caramelized onion sauce and mustard as a topping.
- 16. Serve the hot dog immediately and enjoy your meal!
