🍽️ Spicy Merguez Sausages with Pita, Yogurt and Marinated Onions

Ingredients
- Merguez sausages 600 g
- onions, red 1 pc.
- organic lemons 1 pc.
- sugar 0.5 tbsp
- sour cream yogurt Greek style 250 g
- salt pinch
- pepper, black ground pinch
- feta 50 g
- mint, fresh 20 g
- pita bread 4 pc.
- oil 1 tbsp
Instructions
- 1. Take the merguez sausages out of the fridge to let them reach room temperature.
- 2. Cut a red onion in half and remove the outer skin.
- 3. Slice the onion into very thin strips.
- 4. Wash a lemon thoroughly and cut it in half.
- 5. Squeeze the juice out of the lemon.
- 6. Add one tablespoon of lemon juice and half a tablespoon of sugar to a small bowl.
- 7. Stir the mixture until the sugar is completely dissolved.
- 8. Add the onion strips to the lemon-sugar mixture.
- 9. Mix everything well so the onions absorb the flavor.
- 10. Set the bowl aside to let the onions marinate.
- 11. Put yogurt into a separate bowl.
- 12. Add a little of the remaining lemon juice.
- 13. Season the yogurt with salt and pepper to taste.
- 14. Set the yogurt mixture aside as well.
- 15. Take a block of feta cheese and crumble it into small pieces with your hands.
- 16. Wash fresh mint and shake it dry.
- 17. Pluck the mint leaves off the stems.
- 18. Chop the mint leaves finely.
- 19. Preheat your grill.
- 20. Grill the merguez sausages on all sides for about five to six minutes until crispy.
- 21. Brush pita breads on both sides with a little oil.
- 22. Place the breads on the hot edge of the grill.
- 23. Grill the breads for two to three minutes until golden brown.
- 24. Take the finished sausages and breads off the grill.
- 25. Serve the merguez with the marinated onions, yogurt, feta, and mint.
