  2. 2. Wash the spinach thoroughly and let it drain well.
  3. 3. Halve the onions, peel them, and cut them into fine cubes.
  4. 4. Peel the garlic cloves and chop them finely.
  5. 5. Heat two tablespoons of oil in a large frying pan over high heat.
  6. 6. Fry the Maultaschen (German ravioli) in batches for about four minutes until golden brown.
  7. 7. Place the fried Maultaschen into a baking dish.
  8. 8. Heat another two tablespoons of oil in the same pan.
  9. 9. Sauté the onions and garlic for about two minutes.
  10. 10. Add the drained spinach and let it wilt for about one minute.
  11. 11. Deglaze the mixture with vegetable broth and cream.
  12. 12. Bring the sauce to a boil.
  13. 13. Season the sauce generously with salt, pepper, and grated nutmeg.
  14. 14. Pour the hot sauce evenly over the Maultaschen in the baking dish.
  15. 15. Spread the cheese evenly over the top of the gratin.
  16. 16. Place the baking dish into the preheated oven.
  17. 17. Bake the gratin for about 25 minutes until the cheese is golden brown.
  18. 18. Carefully remove the dish from the oven.
  19. 19. Serve the gratin hot and enjoy.
