🍽️ Classic Matjes Salad

Ingredients
- matjes herring fillets 500 g
- onions, red 2 pcs.
- apples, red 2 pcs.
- pickles 4 pcs.
- capers 2 tbsp
- dill, fresh 30 g
- mayonnaise 4 tbsp
- sour cream 150 g
- pepper, black ground pinch
Instructions
- 1. Rinse the matjes fillets under running water.
- 2. Gently pat the fillets dry with a kitchen towel.
- 3. Cut the matjes fillets into small pieces.
- 4. Peel the onions.
- 5. Slice the onions into thin rings.
- 6. Wash the apples thoroughly.
- 7. Quarter the apples.
- 8. Remove the core from the apples.
- 9. Slice the apples into thin slices.
- 10. Drain the gherkins.
- 11. Catch the gherkin liquid in a small container.
- 12. Dice the gherkins.
- 13. Chop the capers finely.
- 14. Wash the fresh dill.
- 15. Dry the dill with a kitchen towel.
- 16. Chop the dill finely.
- 17. Put the mayonnaise into a large bowl.
- 18. Add the sour cream to the mayonnaise.
- 19. Add one tablespoon of the collected gherkin liquid to the bowl.
- 20. Add the chopped capers to the bowl.
- 21. Add the chopped dill to the bowl.
- 22. Optionally add a little sugar.
- 23. Mix the sauce ingredients well together.
- 24. Season the sauce with pepper.
- 25. Stir the prepared matjes pieces, onions, apples, and gherkins into the sauce.
- 26. Let the salad marinate for at least 30 minutes.
- 27. Taste the salad again after marinating.
- 28. Plate the salad.
- 29. Serve the salad.
