  1. 1. Preheat the oven to 175 degrees Celsius using top and bottom heat.
  2. 2. Cut the almonds in half lengthwise.
  3. 3. Sift the powdered sugar into a bowl.
  4. 4. Add the starch to the sifted powdered sugar and mix well.
  5. 5. Chop the marzipan base into small pieces.
  6. 6. Separate the eggs so you have the egg whites and yolks apart.
  7. 7. Whip the egg whites until stiff peaks form.
  8. 8. Gently fold the stiffly whipped egg whites into the marzipan mixture.
  9. 9. Line a baking tray with baking paper.
  10. 10. Use two teaspoons to form small mounds from the marzipan mixture.
  11. 11. Place the mounds on the tray, ensuring there is enough space between them.
  12. 12. Whisk the egg yolk in a small bowl.
  13. 13. Brush each marzipan mound with the whisked egg yolk.
  14. 14. Press half an almond gently into each mound.
  15. 15. Put the tray in the oven and bake the bites for about 15 minutes.
