  1. 1. Halve the onion and remove the skin.
  2. 2. Dice the onion into fine cubes.
  3. 3. Peel the garlic and the ginger.
  4. 4. Finely chop the garlic and the ginger.
  5. 5. Rinse the lentils in a sieve under cold water.
  6. 6. Let the lentils drain in the sieve.
  7. 7. Heat the oil in a pot over medium heat.
  8. 8. Sauté the onions together with the garlic and ginger for about 2 minutes.
  9. 9. Season the mixture generously with salt.
  10. 10. Add pepper.
  11. 11. Add curry powder.
  12. 12. Sprinkle in cinnamon.
  13. 13. Add cumin.
  14. 14. Add the lentils to the pot.
  15. 15. Add the raisins.
  16. 16. Deglaze the mixture with coconut milk.
  17. 17. Add the broth.
  18. 18. Cover the pot.
  19. 19. Let the dal simmer for about 20 minutes on low heat.
  20. 20. Put the rice into another pot.
  21. 21. Pour about 700 ml of salted water over the rice.

  30. 30. Taste the lentil dal.
  31. 31. Serve the dal on plates.
  32. 32. Place the rice next to the dal.
  33. 33. Garnish the dish with fresh coriander.
