  1. 1. Remove the outer leaves from the red cabbage and quarter it.
  2. 2. Cut out the hard core from the red cabbage.
  3. 3. Slice the red cabbage into thin strips or grate it finely.
  4. 4. Halve the onions and peel them.
  5. 5. Slice the onions into thin strips.
  6. 6. Peel the apple and quarter it.
  7. 7. Remove the core from the apple.
  8. 8. Cut the apple into small cubes.
  9. 9. Heat the oil in a pot over medium heat.
  10. 10. Add the onions and apple cubes to the pot.
  11. 11. Sauté the onions and apples for about 4 to 5 minutes until translucent.
  12. 12. Add the sliced red cabbage to the pot.
  13. 13. Sauté the red cabbage for another 5 minutes while stirring.
  14. 14. Deglaze the red cabbage with red wine.
  15. 15. Pour in some vegetable broth.
  16. 16. Add a bay leaf to the pan.

  19. 19. Add vinegar to the pan.
  20. 20. Add sugar to the pan.

  24. 24. Mix the cornstarch smoothly with water in a bowl.
  25. 25. Add the cornstarch-water mixture to the red cabbage.
  26. 26. Bring the mixture to a boil.
  27. 27. Season the red cabbage with salt and sugar to taste.
  28. 28. Serve the red cabbage.
