  1. 1. Wash the basilica thoroughly and shake it dry.
  2. 2. Remove the thick stems from the basilica.
  3. 3. Set aside four nice basilica leaves for decoration.
  4. 4. Halve the lime.
  5. 5. Squeeze the juice of the lime.
  6. 6. Rinse the cucumber.
  7. 7. Peel four long strips from the cucumber skin with a peeler.
  8. 8. Also save these cucumber strips for decoration.
  9. 9. Peel the rest of the cucumber completely.
  10. 10. Cut the peeled cucumber into coarse cubes.
  11. 11. Put the cucumber cubes, the basilica, 10 tablespoons of sugar, the lime juice, the gin and the water in a tall container.
  12. 12. Puree the mixture very finely.
  13. 13. Pour the mixture through a sieve into a measuring cup.
  14. 14. Distribute ice cubes evenly on four glasses.
  15. 15. Pour the cucumber gimlet over the ice cubes.
  16. 16. Decorate each glass with a cucumber strip and a basilica leaf.
