  1. 1. Slice the ginger into very thin pieces.
  2. 2. Stir 100 grams of sugar with 100 milliliters of water in a pot.
  3. 3. Add the ginger slices, cinnamon, star anise, and cloves to the pot.
  4. 4. Bring the mixture to a boil.
  5. 5. Let the syrup simmer on low heat for about 5 minutes.
  6. 6. Strain the spiced syrup through a sieve into a swing-top bottle.
  7. 7. Let the syrup cool down briefly.
  8. 8. Fill a shaker with ice.
  9. 9. Pour 15 milliliters of the spiced syrup into the shaker.
  10. 10. Pour 50 milliliters of rum into the shaker.
  11. 11. Shake the mixture vigorously.
  12. 12. Fill a drinking glass with ice cubes.
  13. 13. Pour the rum-syrup mix into the glass.
  14. 14. Top up the drink with ginger ale.
  15. 15. Serve the Golden Drink immediately.
