  1. 1. Peel the garlic cloves and halve the onion.
  2. 2. Finely dice the onion and garlic.
  3. 3. Thoroughly wash the chili peppers under running water.
  4. 4. Remove the seeds from the chili peppers and slice them into thin strips.
  5. 5. Drain the sun-dried tomatoes.
  6. 6. Slice the sun-dried tomatoes into strips as well.
  7. 7. Heat two tablespoons of olive oil in a pot over medium heat.
  8. 8. Sauté the onions, garlic, and chili peppers for two to three minutes.
  9. 9. Add the sugar and let it melt for about one minute.
  10. 10. Deglaze the mixture with balsamic vinegar.
  11. 11. Add the chopped tomatoes and the sun-dried tomato strips to the sauce.
  12. 12. Simmer the sauce without a lid for about 15 minutes.

  21. 21. Toss the gnocchi with the tomato sauce.

  23. 23. Garnish the dish with the toasted pine nuts and basil.
