  4. 4. Squeeze the juice from the orange.
  5. 5. Put the orange juice, the grated peel, the red wine, the sugar, the vanilla sugar, the star anise, and the cinnamon stick into a pot.
  6. 6. Heat the mixture on medium heat until it comes to a boil.
  7. 7. Let the syrup simmer gently for about 10 minutes.
  8. 8. Strain the mulled wine syrup through a sieve.
  9. 9. Fill the syrup immediately into sterilized jars or bottles.
  10. 10. Seal the jars or bottles immediately.
  11. 11. Store the syrup in a cool and dark place until you are ready to use it.
