  1. 1. Wash the oranges thoroughly and slice one orange. Halve the remaining oranges and squeeze out the juice. In a pot, bring the red wine together with the cinnamon sticks, star anise, and orange slices to a boil and let it simmer gently for about 5 minutes.
  2. 2. Add the freshly squeezed orange juice so that there is a total of 1 liter of liquid in the pot. Mix everything well with the jam sugar and bring to a boil. Simmer gently over medium heat for about 4 minutes, stirring constantly.
  3. 3. For the setting test, place a teaspoon of the jelly on a cold plate. If the jelly sets after about 1 minute, it can be processed further. If it is still too liquid, extend the cooking time by 1–2 minutes and repeat the setting test.
  4. 4. Carefully skim off the foam that forms. Remove the spices and fill the finished jelly hot into sterilized screw-top jars. Close the jars and let them cool upside down. The mulled wine jelly can be served as desired. Enjoy your meal!
