  1. 1. Peel the ginger root.
  2. 2. Grate the ginger finely.
  3. 3. Put water, sugar, and the grated ginger into a pot.
  4. 4. Bring the mixture to a boil in a pot.
  5. 5. Let the mixture simmer until the sugar is completely dissolved.
  6. 6. Pour the hot syrup through a fine sieve to remove the ginger residue.
  7. 7. Let the sugar syrup cool down.
  8. 8. Wash the basil leaves under cold water.
  9. 9. Shake the leaves dry.
  10. 10. Carefully pluck the basil leaves from the stems.
  11. 11. Cut the grapefruit in half.
  12. 12. Squeeze the juice out of the grapefruit.
  13. 13. Put the basil leaves into a shaker.
  14. 14. Add two tablespoons of the cooled sugar syrup to the shaker.
  15. 15. Muddle the basil and syrup lightly in the shaker.
  16. 16. Add 50 grams of ice cubes to the shaker.
  17. 17. Add two tablespoons of grapefruit juice to the shaker.
  18. 18. Shake the mixture vigorously in the shaker.
  19. 19. Fill a drinking glass with fresh ice cubes.
  20. 20. Pour the shaker mixture through a sieve into the prepared glass.
  21. 21. Top up the drink with ginger ale.
  22. 22. Pour the remaining sugar syrup into a bottle to keep it fresh longer.
