  1. 1. Ideally, thaw the cod overnight in the refrigerator.
  2. 2. Wash the potatoes thoroughly, peel them, and cut them into coarse cubes.
  3. 3. Place the potatoes in a pot and cover them just with salted water.
  4. 4. Bring the water to a boil and cook the potatoes with the lid on for about 20 minutes until soft.
  5. 5. Bring about 2 liters of salted water to a boil in a separate pot.
  6. 6. Wash the beans and trim the ends.
  7. 7. Cook the beans in the boiling water for about 8 to 10 minutes until al dente.
  8. 8. Wash the basil, shake it dry, and pluck the leaves off.
  9. 9. Finely chop the basil leaves.
  10. 10. Wash the lemon and cut it in half.
  11. 11. Squeeze the juice from the lemon.
  12. 12. Rinse the cod and pat it dry with kitchen paper.
  13. 13. Season the fish with salt, pepper, and the lemon juice.
  14. 14. Heat the oil in a frying pan over high heat.
  15. 15. Fry the cod on all sides for about 3 to 4 minutes until golden brown, depending on thickness.
  16. 16. Reduce the heat slightly and add 1 tablespoon of butter.
  17. 17. Finish cooking the fish for another 4 to 5 minutes.
  18. 18. Drain the potatoes and let them steam dry for a moment in the same pot.
  19. 19. Mash the potatoes with 3 tablespoons of butter.
  20. 20. Add some milk if desired.
  21. 21. Season the mash with salt and pepper to taste.
  22. 22. Stir the chopped basil into the mash.
  23. 23. Drain the beans.
  24. 24. Toss the beans in the same pot with 1 tablespoon of butter.
  25. 25. Season the beans with salt and pepper to taste.
  26. 26. Plate the basil mashed potatoes, beans, and cod.
  27. 27. Drizzle the dish with the pan juices.
