  1. 1. Ideally, thaw the cod overnight in the refrigerator.
  2. 2. Peel the potatoes and wash them thoroughly.
  3. 3. Cut the potatoes into coarse cubes.
  4. 4. Place the potato cubes in a pot with salted water.
  5. 5. Bring the water to a boil and cook the potatoes for about 25 minutes.
  6. 6. Wash the broccoli thoroughly.
  7. 7. Divide the broccoli into florets about 2 cm in size.
  8. 8. Peel the tough stem of the broccoli and chop it coarsely.
  9. 9. Add the broccoli to the pot during the last 7 minutes of the potatoes' cooking time.
  10. 10. Halve the onions and peel them.
  11. 11. Slice the onions into rings.
  12. 12. Heat 2 tablespoons of butter in a frying pan over low to medium heat.
  13. 13. Slowly fry the onion rings until golden brown for about 15 to 20 minutes.
  14. 14. Wash the lemon thoroughly.
  15. 15. Halve the lemon and squeeze out the juice.
  16. 16. Rinse the cod fillets.
  17. 17. Pat the fillets dry with kitchen paper.
  18. 18. Season the fillets with salt, pepper, and the lemon juice.
  19. 19. Coat the fillets in flour so they are lightly covered.
  20. 20. Heat 1 tablespoon of butter in a frying pan over medium heat.
  21. 21. Fry the cod fillets for about 4 to 5 minutes on each side.
  22. 22. Drain the potatoes and broccoli.
  23. 23. Let the vegetables steam dry for a short moment.
  24. 24. Add milk and the remaining butter to the pot.
  25. 25. Mash everything into a smooth puree using a potato masher.
  26. 26. Season the puree with salt and pepper to taste.
  27. 27. Plate the puree.
  28. 28. Garnish with the caramelized onion rings and the fish fillets.
