  1. 1. Rinse the oranges under running water.
  2. 2. Finely grate about two teaspoons of the orange peel.
  3. 3. Slice the oranges into thin rounds.
  4. 4. Place the orange slices and grated peel into a large pot.
  5. 5. Pour the red wine over the oranges in the pot.
  6. 6. Add a cinnamon stick and some cloves to the mixture.
  7. 7. Warm the punch over low heat.
  8. 8. Avoid bringing the liquid to a boil.
  9. 9. Place a sugar loaf on a metal tong.
  10. 10. Hold the tong with the sugar loaf over the pot.
  11. 11. Slowly drizzle rum over the sugar loaf.
  12. 12. Repeat the wetting until the sugar is completely soaked.
  13. 13. Ignite the sugar loaf with a lighter.
  14. 14. Wait for the burning sugar and rum to drip into the punch.
  15. 15. Pour a little more rum if the flame weakens.
  16. 16. Wait until the sugar is completely melted.
  17. 17. Let the melted sugar flow into the red wine.
  18. 18. Stir the finished punch well.
  19. 19. Pour the punch into cups.
