🍽️ Döner Schnitzel with Red Cabbage and Pita

Ingredients
- garlic cloves 1 pc.
- olive oil 4 tbsp.
- cayenne pepper pinch
- cumin pinch
- paprika, sweet pinch
- salt pinch
- ham schnitzel from the top round of pork 600 g
- mini cucumbers 4 pc.
- vine tomatoes 2 pc.
- onions, red 1 pc.
- red cabbage, fresh 0.25 pc.
- lemons 1 pc.
- oil 2 tbsp.
- sour cream 150 g
- pita bread 4 pc.
Instructions
- 1. Peel the garlic and chop it very finely.
- 2. Mix the olive oil with the garlic, cayenne pepper, cumin, paprika powder, and salt in a bowl.
- 3. Rinse the schnitzel and pat it dry with a kitchen towel.
- 4. Cut the schnitzel into thin strips.
- 5. Toss the meat strips in the marinade until they are completely coated.
- 6. Set the marinated meat strips aside for later.
- 7. Wash the cucumbers and cut off the ends.
- 8. Halve the cucumbers lengthwise and slice them into thin rounds.
- 9. Wash the tomatoes and cut them into small cubes.
- 10. Halve the onion and peel it.
- 11. Cut the onion into thin strips.
- 12. Quarter the red cabbage and remove the hard core in the center.
- 13. Shred the red cabbage into very fine strips.
- 14. Wash the lemon and cut it in half.
- 15. Squeeze the juice out of the lemon.
- 16. Heat oil in a large frying pan over high heat.
- 17. Take the meat strips out of the marinade.
- 18. Fry the meat strips in the hot pan for about 4 minutes until golden brown.
- 19. Deglaze the pan with the remaining marinade.
- 20. Swirl the pan briefly to mix the sauce.
- 21. Remove the fried meat from the pan and set it aside.
- 22. Remove the pan with the sauce from the stove.
- 23. Stir the sour cream into the hot sauce.
- 24. Thoroughly mix the fond (caramelized residues) into the sauce.
- 25. Add one tablespoon of lemon juice to the sauce.
- 26. Season the sauce with salt and cayenne pepper to taste.
- 27. Lightly moisten the pita breads with water.
- 28. Warm the pita breads in a toaster or oven until golden brown.
- 29. Cut open the warm pita breads.
- 30. Spread the red sauce on the inside of the breads.
- 31. Fill the breads with the meat and vegetables as desired.
- 32. Serve the döner sandwiches immediately.
