  1. 1. Cut the cold butter into small cubes.
  2. 2. Place the butter cubes into a bowl.
  3. 3. Add sugar, egg, flour, salt, vanilla sugar, and baking powder to the bowl.
  4. 4. Knead the ingredients into a dough using your hands.
  5. 5. Chop the chocolate into fine pieces.
  6. 6. Mix the chocolate pieces into the dough.
  7. 7. Preheat the oven to 180 degrees Celsius with top and bottom heat.
  8. 8. Line a baking tray with baking paper.
  9. 9. Slice the croissants open.
  10. 10. Spread about one tablespoon of dough onto the bottom croissant halves.
  11. 11. Place the top croissant halves on top.
  12. 12. Spread another tablespoon of dough on the top side.
  13. 13. Place the crookies on the prepared baking tray.
  14. 14. Bake the crookies in the center of the oven for 15 to 20 minutes.
  15. 15. Ensure the dough takes on color but does not dry out.
  16. 16. Remove the crookies from the oven.
  17. 17. Let them cool down briefly on a wire rack.
