🍽️ Chinese Steamed Yeast Buns Filled with Minced Meat and Vegetables

Ingredients
- yeast, fresh 15 g
- sugar 0.5 tsp
- wheat flour, type 405 330 g
- salt 1 tsp
- sunflower oil 4 tbsp
- spring onions 1 pc.
- carrots 1 pc.
- pork mince 150 g
- soy sauce 5 tbsp
- pepper, mixed pinch
Instructions
- 1. Crumble the yeast into a large bowl.
- 2. Mix the yeast with the sugar and dissolve it in 200 milliliters of lukewarm water.
- 3. Cover the bowl and let the mixture rest for about 10 minutes.
- 4. Add flour, salt, and 3 tablespoons of oil to the yeast mixture.
- 5. Knead the ingredients into a smooth and pliable dough.
- 6. Cover the dough and let it rise in a warm place for about 1 hour.
- 7. Wash the spring onions and trim the ends.
- 8. Slice the spring onions into thin rings.
- 9. Wash the carrot and remove the ends.
- 10. Grate the carrot finely.
- 11. Heat oil in a pan over high heat.
- 12. Sauté the minced meat with a bit of salt for about 3 minutes until browned.
- 13. Add the spring onions, grated carrots, and 1 tablespoon of soy sauce to the pan.
- 14. Cook the mixture for another 4 to 5 minutes until crumbly.
- 15. Allow the filling to cool.
- 16. Season the filling to taste with more soy sauce and pepper if desired.
- 17. Bring about 2 liters of water to a boil in a pot.
- 18. Flatten the dough on a floured surface.
- 19. Divide the dough into 10 equal portions.
- 20. Flatten each dough portion.
- 21. Place 1 tablespoon of filling on each dough round.
- 22. Shape the dough around the filling into a ball.
- 23. Line a steamer basket or bamboo steamer with parchment paper.
- 24. Prick the paper several times with a fork or knife.
- 25. Place the buns inside the steamer.
- 26. Steam the buns over boiling water in a covered pot for about 20 minutes.
- 27. Remove the steamed yeast buns from the pot.
- 28. Serve the buns with soy sauce.
