🍳 Simple Homemade Bagels

Ingredients
- Brown sugar 2 tbsp
- Water 300 ml
- Yeast, fresh 0.5 pc.
- Wheat flour, Type 405 500 g
- Olive oil 2 tbsp
- Salt 3 tsp
- Honey 2 tbsp
- Sesame, white 1 tbsp
Instructions
- 1. Mix sugar and lukewarm water in a bowl.
- 2. Crumble the yeast into the liquid and let the mixture rest for ten minutes.
- 3. Add flour, olive oil, and two teaspoons of salt.
- 4. Knead the ingredients into a smooth dough.
- 5. Shape the dough into a ball.
- 6. Cover the bowl and let the dough rise in a warm place for about one hour.
- 7. Knead the dough briefly after it has risen.
- 8. Divide the dough into eight equal portions.
- 9. Press the center of a bagel with a wooden spoon and move it in a circle to form the characteristic hole.
- 10. Place the bagels on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
- 11. Ensure there is enough space between the bagels as they will rise again.
- 12. Cover the bagels and let them rest for ten minutes.
- 13. Bring plenty of water to a boil in a pot.
- 14. Add honey and one teaspoon of salt to the boiling water.
- 15. Let the sweetener simmer briefly.
- 16. Preheat the oven to 220 degrees Celsius with top and bottom heat.
- 17. Carefully add the bagels in batches to the hot water.
- 18. Let the bagels simmer in the water for about 45 seconds.
- 19. Gently turn the bagels over.
- 20. Let them sit in the water for another 45 seconds.
- 21. Remove the bagels with a slotted spoon.
- 22. Let the bagels drain.
- 23. Place the bagels back on the baking sheet.
- 24. Sprinkle the bagels with sesame seeds.
- 25. Bake the bagels for about 20 minutes.
