🍝 Crispy Arrabbiata Bake with Bacon

Ingredients
- Shallots 1 pc.
- Garlic cloves 3 pc.
- Mozzarella 2 pc.
- Oil 3 tbsp.
- Tomato paste 4 tbsp.
- Herbs of Provence, dried 2 tsp.
- Sugar 1 tsp.
- Tomatoes, pureed 800 g
- Salt pinch
- Pepper, black ground pinch
- Chili, ground 1 tsp.
- Bacon strips 200 g
- Macaroni 500 g
- Parmesan, grated 100 g
- Thyme, fresh 10 g
- Butter 3 tbsp.
- Breadcrumbs 3 tbsp.
Instructions
- 1. Preheat the oven to 220 degrees Celsius. Select the top and bottom heat setting.
- 2. Cut the shallot in half and peel it. Dice it into small cubes.
- 3. Peel the garlic and chop it finely.
- 4. Slice the mozzarella cheese.
- 5. Heat one tablespoon of oil in a pot over medium heat.
- 6. Add the garlic and shallots to the hot oil. Sauté them for about two minutes.
- 7. Stir tomato paste, herbs de Provence, and sugar into the pot.
- 8. Fry the mixture for another two minutes.
- 9. Add the crushed tomatoes and 100 milliliters of water.
- 10. Simmer the sauce without a lid for about ten minutes.
- 11. Season the sauce with salt, pepper, and chili to taste.
- 12. Heat a frying pan over medium heat.
- 13. Fry the bacon strips for about four minutes until crispy.
- 14. Remove the bacon from the pan.
- 15. Let the bacon drain on kitchen paper.
- 16. Leave the cooking juices in the pan. Do not clean the pan.
- 17. Bring about five liters of salted water to a boil in a large pot.
- 18. Cook the macaroni in the boiling water for about nine minutes until al dente.
- 19. Drain the pasta.
- 20. Let the pasta drain well.
- 21. Place the macaroni, bacon, and sauce into a baking dish.
- 22. Mix all ingredients thoroughly.
- 23. Distribute the mozzarella slices evenly over the bake.
- 24. Sprinkle Parmesan cheese over the bake.
- 25. Place the baking dish on the top rack of the oven.
- 26. Bake the bake for about ten minutes until golden brown.
- 27. Wash the thyme.
- 28. Shake off excess water from the thyme.
- 29. Strip the thyme leaves from the stems.
- 30. Finely chop the thyme leaves.
- 31. Add two tablespoons of butter to the pan with the cooking juices.
- 32. Melt the butter over medium heat.
- 33. Add the breadcrumbs and chopped thyme to the butter.
- 34. Fry the mixture for about two minutes until golden brown.
- 35. Remove the pan from the heat.
- 36. Transfer the thyme breadcrumbs into a bowl.
- 37. Carefully remove the bake from the oven.
- 38. Serve the bake on plates.
- 39. Sprinkle the thyme breadcrumbs over the bake.
- 40. Serve the dish and enjoy!
