  2. 2. Whisk eggs, milk, sugar, vanilla sugar, and cinnamon together well in a bowl.
  3. 3. Place the toast slices into the liquid.
  4. 4. Press the slices down slightly so they fully absorb the mixture.
  5. 5. Roughly chop the walnuts.
  6. 6. Wash the apples thoroughly.
  7. 7. Halve the apples and remove the core.
  8. 8. Slice the apples into thin slices.
  9. 9. Grease a baking dish with butter.
  10. 10. Layer the soaked toast slices and apple slices alternately in the dish.
  11. 11. Pour the remaining egg-cinnamon-milk mixture over the layers.
  12. 12. Sprinkle the walnuts and raisins evenly on top.
  13. 13. Bake the casserole for about 35 minutes in the oven until golden brown.
  14. 14. Remove the casserole from the oven and let it cool down briefly.
