🍽️ Portuguese Braised Beef (Alcatra)

Ingredients
- Cherry tomatoes 750 g
- Beef goulash 1 kg
- Onions, yellow 2 pcs
- Garlic cloves 2 pcs
- Olive oil 4 tbsp
- Bacon strips 125 g
- Cinnamon 0.5 tsp
- Salt pinch
- Pepper, black ground pinch
- Red wine, dry 150 ml
- Bay leaves, dried 1 pc
Instructions
- 1. Fill a pot with water and bring it to a boil.
- 2. Cut a small cross into the bottom of the tomatoes.
- 3. Pour the boiling water over the tomatoes.
- 4. Let the tomatoes sit in the hot water for a short time.
- 5. Remove the tomatoes and let them drain.
- 6. Peel the skin off the tomatoes.
- 7. Cut the tomatoes in half.
- 8. Remove the seeds from the tomatoes.
- 9. Cut the tomato flesh into small cubes.
- 10. Rinse the beef under running water.
- 11. Pat the meat dry with a kitchen towel.
- 12. Cut the beef into large chunks.
- 13. Cut the onions in half.
- 14. Peel the onions.
- 15. Peel the garlic cloves.
- 16. Dice the onions finely.
- 17. Dice the garlic finely.
- 18. Add one tablespoon of oil to a pot.
- 19. Heat the oil over medium to high heat.
- 20. Add the bacon to the pot.
- 21. Add the diced garlic.
- 22. Add the diced onions.
- 23. Fry the mixture for about three minutes.
- 24. Fry until the onions look translucent.
- 25. Remove the onion mixture from the pot and set it aside.
- 26. Add the remaining oil to the leftover frying fat in the pot.
- 27. Heat the oil over high heat.
- 28. Place the meat in the pot in batches.
- 29. Fry the meat on all sides.
- 30. Fry the meat vigorously for about five minutes.
- 31. Season the meat with cinnamon.
- 32. Season the meat with salt.
- 33. Season the meat with pepper.
- 34. Return the set-aside onion mixture to the pot.
- 35. Deglaze everything with wine.
- 36. Add the diced tomatoes to the pot.
- 37. Add the bay leaves to the pot.
- 38. Bring the mixture to a boil.
- 39. Reduce the heat to low.
- 40. Cover the pot.
- 41. Let the meat braise for one to two hours.
- 42. Stir the meat occasionally.
- 43. Add a little water if necessary.
