  1. 1. Whisk the eggs, milk, and vanilla extract in a shallow, wide bowl.
  2. 2. Place the bread slices briefly into the egg mixture and turn them until both sides have absorbed the liquid.
  3. 3. Melt a portion of the butter in a large frying pan over medium heat.
  4. 4. Place the soaked bread slices in the pan and fry them until golden brown and crispy, approx. 3 minutes per side.
  5. 5. Remove the finished slices from the pan and place them on a plate.
  6. 6. Add the remaining sugar and a splash of water to the still hot pan and let it melt into golden-brown caramel.
  7. 7. Carefully deglaze with the remaining butter when the caramel bubbles, and stir in the chopped walnuts and cinnamon.
  8. 8. Pour the warm caramel walnut mixture over the fried bread slices and serve immediately.
