1. Beat the soft butter until creamy, stir in the cane sugar and apple puree, and add the eggs one by one. Mix the flour with the cornstarch and baking powder, and gently fold the mixture into the batter spoonful by spoonful. Stir in the chocolate chips.
2. Line a baking tray with baking paper and pour in the batter. Bake the cake in the preheated oven at 200 degrees Celsius (convection 180 degrees Celsius; gas mark 3) for about 1 hour. Remove the cake from the oven and let it cool down.
3. Meanwhile, melt the chocolate over a bowl of hot water and spread it thickly over the cake. Decorate the surface with a knife.
