  1. 1. Peel the onions and cut them into thin strips.
  2. 2. Heat the butter in a pot.
  3. 3. Sauté the onions in it until they are translucent.
  4. 4. Pour the broth and wine into the pot.
  5. 5. Add nutmeg, thyme, and cumin.
  6. 6. Let the soup simmer for 25 to 30 minutes.
  7. 7. Preheat the oven grill.
  8. 8. Toast the bread slices.
  9. 9. Rub the toast slices with the peeled garlic clove.
  10. 10. Squeeze the garlic clove and stir it into the soup.
  11. 11. Season the soup with salt and pepper.
  12. 12. Pour the soup into fireproof soup bowls.
  13. 13. Place the bread slices on top of the soup.
  14. 14. Top the slices with cheese.
  15. 15. Place the bowls under the oven grill for a few minutes.
  16. 16. Remove them when the cheese is melted.
  17. 17. Serve the soup immediately.
