  1. 1. Peel the onions and slice them into thin strips.
  2. 2. Heat the butter in a pot.
  3. 3. Sauté the onions in it until they are soft and translucent.
  4. 4. Pour the broth and wine into the pot.
  5. 5. Add nutmeg, thyme, and cumin.
  6. 6. Let the soup simmer on low heat for 25 to 30 minutes.
  7. 7. Toast the bread slices until they are golden brown.
  8. 8. Rub the peeled garlic clove over the toast slices.
  9. 9. Cut the toast slices into smaller pieces if necessary.
  10. 10. Press the remaining garlic clove through a garlic press.
  11. 11. Stir the pressed garlic into the soup.
  12. 12. Season the soup finally with salt and pepper.
  13. 13. Fill the soup into heatproof soup bowls.
  14. 14. Place the garlic toast slices on top of the soup.
  15. 15. Generously sprinkle the toast slices with cheese.
  16. 16. Place the bowls under the grill for a few minutes.
