🍽️ Caramelized Onion Soup with Crispy Baguette

Ingredients
- 800 g onions
- 2 tbsp sunflower oil
- 1 tsp sugar
- salt
- pepper (from the mill)
- 800 ml meat broth
- 200 ml dry white wine
- 2 garlic cloves
- 1 tsp lemon juice
- 8 slices baguette
- 80 g freshly grated Gruyère cheese
Instructions
- 1. Peel the onions and slice them into thin rings.
- 2. Heat the oil in a pot.
- 3. Sauté the onions in the oil over medium heat for 10 to 15 minutes until soft, stirring regularly.
- 4. Season the onions with sugar, salt, and pepper.
- 5. Simmer the onions for another 10 minutes, stirring occasionally, until they are golden brown.
- 6. Pour the broth and wine into the pot.
- 7. Bring the soup to a boil.
- 8. Let the soup simmer for about 15 minutes.
- 9. Peel the garlic.
- 10. Press the garlic directly into the soup.
- 11. Taste the soup and adjust with lemon juice, salt, and pepper.
- 12. Preheat the oven to the grill setting.
- 13. Sprinkle the baguette slices with the cheese.
- 14. Place the topped slices on a baking sheet.
- 15. Broil the baguettes in the preheated oven for about 5 minutes until the cheese is melted.
- 16. Remove the baguettes from the oven.
- 17. Serve the baguettes alongside the hot onion soup.
