- 800 g onions
- 2 tbsp sunflower oil
- 1 tsp sugar
- salt
- pepper (from the mill)
- 800 ml meat broth
- 200 ml dry white wine
- 2 garlic cloves
- 1 tsp lemon juice
- 8 slices baguette
- 80 g freshly grated Gruyère cheese
Instructions
- 1. Peel the onions and slice them into thin rings. Heat the oil in a pot and sauté the onions for 10-15 minutes, stirring occasionally until they become soft. Season with sugar, salt, and pepper, and continue to simmer for another 10 minutes, stirring occasionally, until they are golden brown.
- 2. Add the broth and wine, bring to a boil, and let it simmer for about 15 minutes. Peel the garlic and press it into the soup, then season with lemon juice, salt, and pepper.
- 3. Preheat the oven to the broil setting.
- 4. Pour the onion soup into 4 oven-safe bowls. Place 2 slices of baguette on top of each and sprinkle the cheese evenly over it. Lightly pepper and broil in the preheated oven for about 5 minutes until the cheese is melted. Remove from the oven and serve immediately.
