🍽️ Stuffed Onions with Lentils

Ingredients
- 4 large onions
- 150 g red lentils
- 2 sprigs thyme
- 80 g smoked ham
- 1 clove garlic
- 1 egg
- salt
- olive oil
- pepper (from the mill)
Instructions
- 1. Peel the onions.
- 2. Place them in salted water and boil for about 15 minutes until tender.
- 3. Rinse the onions immediately with cold water to stop the cooking process.
- 4. Cut off the top lid of the onion.
- 5. Carefully hollow out the inside of the onion.
- 6. Finely chop the removed onion flesh.
- 7. Wash the lentils.
- 8. Put the lentils in a pot and cover them with water.
- 9. Bring the water to a boil.
- 10. Add the thyme.
- 11. Cook the lentils for about 10 minutes until al dente.
- 12. Add more water if necessary.
- 13. Place the cooked lentils and the chopped onion into a bowl.
- 14. Preheat the oven to 180 degrees Celsius fan-forced.
- 15. Brush a baking dish with oil.
- 16. Dice the ham finely.
- 17. Peel the garlic and chop it finely.
- 18. Add the ham, garlic, and egg to the bowl with the lentils.
- 19. Mix everything well together.
- 20. Season the filling with salt and pepper.
- 21. Fill the mixture into the hollowed-out onions.
- 22. Place the onion lids back on top.
- 23. Drizzle some olive oil over the onions.
- 24. Bake the onions in the oven for 20 to 25 minutes until golden brown.
- 25. Add a little water to the dish if they start to dry out.
