🍽️ Stuffed Onions

Ingredients
- 800 g medium onions
- salt
- pepper (from the mill)
- 100 g turkey bacon
- 150 ml sour cream
- 1 egg
- 100 g sharp grated cheese (e.g. Sbrinz)
- 2 tbsp breadcrumbs
- salt
- pepper
- paprika powder
- thyme
- fat (for the dish)
Instructions
- 1. Preheat the oven to 200 degrees Celsius.
- 2. Grease a baking dish with some fat.
- 3. Bring water to a boil in a pot and add salt.
- 4. Peel the onions.
- 5. Cook the onions in the boiling salted water for 5 to 8 minutes.
- 6. The onions should be tender but still firm enough not to fall apart.
- 7. Remove the onions from the water and rinse them briefly with cold water.
- 8. Cut each onion from the root end up to the halfway point.
- 9. Remove about two-thirds of the inner onion material and set it aside.
- 10. Trim the bottom of the onions slightly so they stand stably.
- 11. Place the onions in the prepared baking dish.
- 12. Season the inside of the onions carefully with salt and pepper.
- 13. Heat a pan and fry the finely diced bacon until crispy.
- 14. Remove the bacon from the pan and set it aside.
- 15. Finely dice the reserved onion interior.
- 16. Mix the bacon cubes, onion cubes, and the remaining ingredients for the filling.
- 17. Season the filling strongly to taste.
- 18. The filling should form a solid mass but not be liquid.
- 19. If the mixture is too moist, add some more breadcrumbs.
- 20. Fill the onions with the prepared mixture.
- 21. Bake the stuffed onions in the oven for about 15 minutes.
- 22. The onions are ready when they are golden brown on top.
